Cricket fans take note!

Phase one of tickets sale for the ICC World Twenty20 will go live on Wednesday, 24 February 2016. BCCI has appointed BookMyShow as the ticketing agency for the event. This would encompass all matches being played, including the women’s fixtures.

Phase one of the ticket sale will see tickets go on sale for the matches (excluding India matches and the semi finals and final of the men’s and women’s events) to be played at the following venues – Bangalore, Chennai, Dharamsala, Kolkata and Mohali. The online sale of tickets as indicated above will commence at 12:00 noon on 24th February 2016.

The sales portal will be accessible via the ICC website www.icc-cricket.com. The sale of tickets for the matches in Mumbai, Delhi and Nagpur will begin in Phase 2, to be announced shortly.

Considering the demand and in order to ensure a fair opportunity and equal distribution of tickets amongst all the eager fans, limited inventory of tickets for Seven of the highly sought after matches (4 India matches, 2 semi-finals and the final) will be sold online through a unique lottery system.

In order to participate, customers need to register by filling up an online registration form, indicating their preferred match after which they will be automatically enrolled into the draw. The innovative process has been designed to avoid an instant sell-out of tickets and ensures that all users get an equal chance to buy tickets for ICC World T20 2016. The interested users who register for a match of their choice, will be automatically moved to a draw and then through an automated process, the winners will be chosen.

The winners from the random draw will then be given an opportunity to buy tickets for the match they have opted for and will receive a payment link to complete their booking. The window to register will be open for seven days only, starting 25th February 2016. The entire process will be monitored and audited by a reputed auditing agency, to ensure transparency, fairness and efficacy. Also, to maximise participation, not more than 2 tickets per person can be purchased for any of the India matches, or either of the semi-finals or the final.

For all the remaining matches, including all the women games (except the women’s semi finals and final), customers can purchase a maximum of 6 tickets per match. Further, to ensure an impartial and unbiased transaction, an online queue management system will also be in place, which assigns a virtual token to every customer who logs onto the platform to buy these tickets, and also notifies them of the number of users ahead of them and the approximate time left.

“ICC World Twenty20 2016 is a highly anticipated event in the international cricket calendar. It’s therefore imperative we maintain an equal opportunity programme for anyone who is interested in watching these matches at the stadium. BCCI will ensure to enable a smooth execution of this procedure and ensure every fan gets a fair chance to purchase tickets for their preferred match” said Mr. Shashank Manohar, Chairman ICC and President BCCI.

“The start of the online ticket sale is a key milestone in the countdown to the ICC World Twenty20 2016, and we are providing a level playing field, for fans to secure their individual tickets for the T20 extravaganza,” said Mr. Anurag Thakur, Hony. Secretary BCCI. “One of BCCI’s mission is to grow the game of Cricket and ICC WT20 2016 represents a golden opportunity to reach, engage and inspire newer audiences across India and around the world,” he added.
