While the dust is yet to settle over the sex scandal, the work is in progress for the Hockey India elections which are scheduled for July 28.

There are 17 posts, including the posts of president and the secretary, to be filled. Vidya Stokes, the former president of the Women’s Hockey federation of India, and Pargat Singh, former India skipper, will battle it out for the president’s post. Both the factions are confident. While Stokes has the backing of the interim HI committee, Pargat is positive about his chances. “We are confident and are sure to hit the jackpot,” a Stokes aide said, while talking to DNA from Delhi.

Pargat, however, is not a pushover. “One has to be confident — whether it is a battle on the field or off it,” said Pargat.

KPS Gill, former Indian Hockey Federation chief, said that this election is a hoax. “It is a different kind of election. Here we have candidates picking up voters and not the voters picking up the candidates,” Gill said. Gill, though, remained pessimistic about Pargat’s chances.
