If the shooters started the day by winning two gold medals, Indian grapplers ended it by clinching all the three yellow metals at stake on Tuesday. Ravinder Singh, Sanjay and Anil Kumar made a clean sweep winning the golds in the 60kg, 74kg and 96 kg bouts respectively in the Greco-Roman style. It was Ravinder, who started the winning-spree by beating his English opponent Christopher Terence Bosson 7-2. “I feel Ravinder was the hero of the day as he defeated a very tough opponent with such a good score,” said coach Hargobind Singh. “It was a delight to watch Ravinder fight against Nigeria’s Romeo Joseph. It was not an easy bout, but he made it look simple,” he added. Ravinder defeated the Nigerian 8-0 in the semifinals. The coach said that after winning three medals, morale of the wrestlers is high and it will help them in winning the other bouts. “We will try to win all the gold left, as after today’s show, the morale of the boys is really high,” he said.    Just after Ravinder’s win, Sanjay gave the home fans more reasons to celebrate beating South Africa’s Brian Richard Addinall 2-0 in the 74kg final. Against Addinall, Sanjay adopted a wait-and-watch policy and scored points whenever he got an opportunity. The Indian scored a point each in both the rounds to pocket his first Commonwealth Games gold. Sanjay got the better of Samoa’s Laupule Ekeroma 3-0 and Perefegha Kiribein of Nigeria 2-0 in his earlier two bouts.India completed their clean sweep when Anil Kumar beat Hassene Fkiri of Australia in a controversial 96kg final. Fkiri was disqualified after dangerous play and making an obscene gesture to the judges. Australian coach Kuldi Bassi said: “The Indian (Kumar) upset him a bit and was pulling his neck. I told him that was what was going to happen and I think he just lost control. It’s very sad and it’s bad for the country.”The victories were a welcome boon for Indian wrestling, which has been mired in a drugs scandal which sent shockwaves through the team’s training camp. The team was plunged into controversy after four wrestlers including gold prospect Rajiv Tomar failed dope tests and were suspended earlier this month.Posterboy Sushil Kumar, a national star after winning the world 66kg category in Moscow, is expected to be a big draw when he first steps on the mat on Sunday. Gurdial Singh Mander, president of the Indian Wrestling Federation, predicted Kumar would lead India to a haul of at least half the Commonwealth Games gold medals available. With agency inputs
