NEW DELHI: India will host first Commonwealth basketball championship in late July 2010, International Basketball federation (FIBA) announced on Saturday.
"India will host the first commonwealth basketball championship in which best eight teams will participate. This is a wonderful opportunity for Indian Basketball, FIBA president Bob Elphinestone said.
"At a time, when Basketball is not in Delhi's commonwealth games, this tournament is the best possible thing India could have got," BFI secretary general Harish Sharma said.
"we will try to organise this tournament in best possible manner as Indian government has put basket ball under special category, we will have no problem to provide the best facility, he added.
England, Nigeria, Canada and New Zealand, beside host India will be the probable participants. The venue will be finalised by the authority later.
