IOA vice-president Jagdish Tytler declared that like in the last meeting, he would object to the presence of Lalit Bhanot. Along with Suresh Kalmadi and VK Verma, Bhanot is linked to the Commonwealth Games scam.

The meeting has just one point agenda — affiliations to the new federations which has been pending for a long time.

The apex body is also expected to announce the details of the November 25 poll process. The IOA is likely to announce the dates for nomination, scrutiny and withdrawal of candidates as well as the appointment of returning officer.

Some members have expressed happiness over Kalmadi’s decision to not seek another term. “We expect Bhanot and other tainted IOA members to take a break till they are proved innocent by the court of law. Hope they are listening to our voices,” said an IOA official.

However, some officials that DNA spoke to raised doubts over discussion on membership to new federations, saying “once the elections are announced then there cannot be any addition or deletion in the members’ list.”

As per the International Olympic Council’s (IOC) directions, the new federations should be given affiliation to ensure voting right for the federations whose disciplines are included in Olympic Games.

The issue of the IOC Ethics Commission asking IOA to immediately suspend Kalmadi, Bhanot and Verma could be taken up by secretary general Randhir Singh’s camp.

But Kalmadi’s announcement of not seeking another term has given his supporters courage to oppose any such move.

“IOC wanted to send its observer for elections in the wake of Kalmadi’s presence. But now that Kalmadi has decided not to seek re-election, the IOA may ask its parent body not to send an observer,” said a senior official.
