Injury has forced Yuvraj Singh out of cricket for six weeks, in what is a major blow to India’s chances in the ICC Champions Trophy. Delhi batsman Virat Kohli will fly down to South Africa as replacement.

Yuvraj has fractured the index and middle fingers of his right hand. The injury took place during a catching practice session at the University of Witwatersrand’s grounds here.

India were already a depleted side, without their strike bowler Zaheer Khan, who is recovering after a shoulder surgery, and Virender Sehwag, who is still undergoing rehabilitation.

India, who have regained the No. 1 ICC ranking after South Africa’s defeat to Sri Lanka on Tuesday, are slated to play Pakistan on Saturday and Australia on Monday.
With not much separating India (126 pts) from Australia (125pts) and South Africa (123 pts), Yuvraj’s absence will be keenly felt in the battle for the top spot.
