The talented all-rounder reported the incident to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which, in turn, intimated the International Cricket Council (ICC).

Irfan Pathan last played an ODI in February 2009 but “strangers” have approached him too.

The talented all-rounder reported the incident to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which, in turn, intimated the International Cricket Council (ICC).

“That was a strange thing but I do not wish to say anything about the incident,” Pathan told DNA on Thursday.

Pathan said the ICC is doing a fine job in dealing with the fixing menace. “I think ICC is taking the required steps to punish players. I feel that it won’t affect the game as such events have occurred in the past too. People will be able to put this behind,” he said.

“Such things happen because of a few players who cheat people. You can’t cheat people and you shouldn’t. Personally speaking, I have experienced hardship in my life and I know the value of hard-earned money. Moreover, the players get enough money for playing. So what’s the point in doing all this?” he reasoned.

Talking about his prolonged absence from the national squad, Pathan said he has never been low on confidence and is raring to go. “I am positive about my attitude and the recent stint in Australia has also helped me. I will now report to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) and will start playing in a few days,” he said.

So is he looking forward to make a comeback? “Making a comeback has never been an issue for me. I am positive and have a lot of confidence. I feel setbacks are a part and parcel of the game. And as a player, I just need to keep my focus on training,” he added.
