Different styles, but equally effective were Ishant and Praveen

HOBART: They have contrasting bowling styles, but are effective in equal measure. At least on Tuesday, both shone bright in India's emphatic win. Praveen Kumar and Ishant Sharma shared eight wickets between them to bowl India into the finals. After the match, both were in a chatty mood.

For Praveen, more than the wickets what was more important was that he got them at the right time. "Yes, it does feel very good. I was particularly happy with my first wicket (Sangakkara). It was very important."

That was followed by two more wickets. "At that point, I was thinking I should focus on keeping the ball in the right areas. The wicket was very good for batting, and all four of us performed well," the 21-year-old UP bowler said, praising his pace partners Ishant, Irfan Pathan and Munaf Patel.

Ishant, however, said Praveen's scalps were crucial. "Had Praveen not taken those wickets at that time, we would have been chasing a bigger and stiffer total. He put us back on track." The Delhi pacer said he was not looking to bowl flat out when he was called back for his second spell. "I was thinking of containing the batsmen. But I bowled in the right areas and that's what counts."

Ishant said he has developed a slower one which he has been working with bowling coach Venkatesh Prasad for some time.

"We've been working on that for some time. He has been saying that if I developed a slower one, I can be more effective. I am happy I'm able to bowl that now." Ishant clean bowled Andrew Symonds with a slower one in the previous match.

Praveen, who comes from a small town in UP, said he is proud to have tasted success at the big stage. "It feels very good. All the players have been supporting me. Dhoni Bhai, all the senior players, have been very cooperative."

He said he was unable to swing the ball much here because he didn't get the new ball. "I don't bowl first change there (in India), I bowl with the new ball in domestic competitions. Here the ball does not swing after the initial part. But yes, I've bowled with the Kookaburra in domestic competitions."

Praveen, however, is not going to focus on batting yet, despite the prodding from his captain.

"Well, my focus will remain on my bowling for now," he added.
