Don Bosco (Matunga) experience a sense of déjà vu every couple of months. At regular intervals, boys from the school have made it their habit of lifting a trophy at the MSSA-Nike Inter-school football tournament. The only thing that changes is the age group in which the school’s team takes part.
On Monday, Don Bosco kept the winning tradition alive by taking their championship tally of the season to four as they thrashed St Francis D’Assisi 5-0 in the final of the MSSA-Nike boys’ under-10 football tournament.
“We have dominated the tournament throughout. What I am pleased with is that we haven’t conceded a single goal in the whole tournament,” said coach Leslie Machado, adding, “That was also the case with the under-12 boys.”
Don Bosco have also won the boys’ under-12 and under-14 championships earlier in the season and ended as runners up in the under-16 category.
“What helps develop sporting talent in our school is a separate class for children interested in sports. They practise every day for a couple of hours. The boys play all events till they reach fourth standard and as soon as they enter secondary school, we filter them and encourage participation at the inter-school level,” Machado added.
