Shadab Jakati took four wickets as Chennai Super Kings recorded their third win in seven matches with an 18-run margin over the Delhi Daredevils.
Opener David Warner, playing in place of an injured Virender Sehwag, made 51 off 40 balls at the top, while wicketkeeper batsman Dinesh Karthik made 52 off 31 but it wasn’t enough as the Daredevils ran out of steam.
Earlier, Left-arm pacers Ashish Nehra and Dirk Nannes took three wickets each as Delhi Daredevils bundled out Chennai Super Kings for 163 in their Indian Premier League match here on Saturday. Nehra and Nannes returned with identical figures of 3/27 while medium pacer Rajat Bhatia chipped in with 2/17 to set Delhi a challenging target of 164 at the Wanderers which is hosting the first match of the tournament.
Put into bat by Daredevils stand-in captain Gautam Gambhir, the Super Kings scored at a brisk pace initially and were well on course for a much bigger total as they were 134 for four after the 15th over. But, Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s side could add only 29 runs from the last five overs.
Jacob Oram (3), Dhoni (6), Shadab Jakati (13), Laxmipathy Balaji (2) and Muttiah Muralitharan (3) did little for the team’s cause. Nannes took two wickets — that of Oram and Dhoni — in successive balls in the 18th over to strike a body blow.
