Trott, who started confidently on Thursday's opening day, became more introspective as his innings progressed with only two boundaries in Friday's opening session.

Jonathan Trott became the seventh England batsman to score a double hundred in a test at Lord's on Friday with an unbeaten 217 at lunch on the second day of the first test against Bangladesh.

Trott, who started confidently on Thursday's opening day, became more introspective as his innings progressed with only two boundaries in Friday's opening session.

He reached the 200 landmark in his first test at the home of world cricket with a two to mid-wicket after 7-12 hours at the crease with 18 fours.

At lunch after a soporific morning, England had taken their first innings total from 362 for four overnight to 456 for six.

Eoin Morgan, 40 not out overnight, scored only four more runs from 11 balls, before he was caught behind playing a loose drive at the persevering Shahadat Hossain.

Shahadat, the pick of an indifferent attack on Thursday,  bowled a lively opening five-over spell for a return of one for 10.

England gifted Bangladesh their next wicket when Matt Prior was run out for a sketchy 16. Prior had set off for a second run but was sent back by Trott and failed to regain his crease.

Bangladesh were dealt a potentially serious blow when their exuberant left-handed opening batsman Tamim Iqbal left the field after three quarters of an hour.

Tamim, who is playing with tape on his injured left wrist, dived on to the boundary ropes in an attempt to cut off a four.

He fell heavily on his left arm and lay on the ground for a couple of minutes before getting to his feet and walking slowly to the dressing room.
