KOLKATA: It is unusual for two Kings to share the same territory. But that was what happened on Sunday when Bayern Munich's legendary goalkeeper Oliver Kahn, nicknamed King Kahn, entered the team hotel of Kolkata Knight Riders of Shah Rukh Khan, aka Bollywood's King Khan.
Though the kings did not have a chance meeting, it seemed King Khan with his Knight Riders overshadowed the presence of Kahn, who arrived here late on Sunday afternoon to play his farewell match against Mohun Bagan on Tuesday.
The Knights Riders might be already out of the semifinal race of Indian Premier League but their fan following has not diminished a bit. Fans went running after the Knights for autographs while the German football giants' arrival went unnoticed.
A group of Knight Riders players - Ajit Agarkar, Akash Chopra, David Hussey and Tatenda Taibu - were thronged by autograph hunters. But when the Bayern players came into the hotel, none ran after them.
Some Knight Riders players were caught unawares when told about the presence of Bayern Munich in their team hotel. Tatenda Taibu was surprised while Hussey too was excited to hear that he was sharing the same hotel with Kahn.
"Oh really he is here! He is a great footballer and I will make sure that I meet him at least once," Hussey said.
Kahn can be happy that his farewell away from home will be nothing short of a dream farewell. A sold out crowd at the Salt Lake stadium is expected to watch Bayern Munich take on Mohun Bagan on Tuesday.
