BERLIN: Germany coach Juergen Klinsmann passed on his greetings from the World Cup to the country's forces serving in Afghanistan in a live link-up on Monday.
Klinsmann was linked by satellite from the German Football Federation's daily press conference in Berlin to a Bundeswehr camp in Kabul where five soldiers took part in a brief question and answer session.
Klinsmann got the first question in, asking: "How are you, and how long have you been away from your families?"
"Three-and-a-half months for most," replied Warrant Officer Thomas Kassat - a lot longer than the German players based in Berlin.
"Then we can't complain," replied Klinsmann.
The German soldiers are able to follow the team at the World, using bed sheets as a screen for match broadcasts under camouflage.
The soldiers hang out the German flag and sing the national anthem and "one or two beers" are also allowed at certain times, said Kassat.
