Suspended Indian Premier League (IPL) commissioner Lalit Modi moved the Supreme Court on Tuesday, seeking replacement of two members of the disciplinary committee probing allegations of financial irregularities against him.
Modi’s petition challenges a Bombay High Court judgment on September 15 that dismissed his petition challenging constitution of the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s disciplinary committee.
Modi sought removal of Arun Jaitley and Chirayu Amin from BCCI’s three-member disciplinary probe panel, contending that they are likely to be biased against him. Union minister of state Jyotiraditya Scindia is the third member of the panel.
Chief justice Mohit Shah and Justice DY Chandrachud refused to stay Wednesday’s proceedings of the disciplinary committee.
Modi had suffered a setback last July too when another bench rejected his plea to stay the inquiry proceedings.
In his fresh law suit before the apex court Modi has pleaded for a free and fair inquiry in all the allegations against him.
He has included the conflict of interest against N Srinivasan for owning Chennai Super Kings while being the officer-bearer of BCCI, an issue that the court has examined and a verdict on the matter is expected soon.
He said that the HC had summarily dismissed his petition seeking an independent tribunal, preferably consisting of one or more retired judges of Supreme Court, be constituted to examine the allegations against him.
