Legendary Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic retires from football

Manchester United legend Nemanja Vidic has called it a day. Known as a non-comprising defender with exceptional bravery, Vidic was a former club captain who won numerous trophies with the Red Devils. A statement on Man Utd’s official website said: “The time has come for me to hang up my boots," he said. "The injuries I have had in the last few years have taken their toll. "I would like to thank all the players I have played with, all the managers and staff I have worked with, and say a big 'thank you' to the fans for their support over the years."

Signed from Red Star Belgrade, Vidic is remembered as one of the most successful defenders to ply his trade in the Premier League and was known to never shirk away from a hard tackle. Together, Rio Ferdiannd and Nemanja Vidic were at the heart of United’s successes during the latter Ferguson years which saw them win numerous league titles and the UEFA Champions League 2007-08.
