Lionel Messi is no stranger to records, the Argentina skipper has shattered another record, as his Instagram post after winning the FIFA World Cup has become the most liked picture ever, on the photo-sharing app. Messi's 10-slide post, celebrating Argentina's 4-2 win over France in the final has surpassed 'The Egg' which was the previous most-liked pic on Instagram.
The account @world_record_egg posted a photo of an egg, originally taken by Serghei Platanov, became the most-liked picture on Instagram on January 4, 2019, amassing 56 million likes, but Messi's post has surpassed that, with over 57 million likes at the time of writing.
Earlier, Messi's post had become the most liked picture by a sportsperson, surpassing Cristiano Ronaldo's picture wherein he can be been playing chess with Messi himself.

Before 'The Egg', Kylie Jenner's picture held the world record for being the most liked picture, but an Instagram account was set up as part of a social experiment which post just a pic of an uncracked egg, aiming to become the most liked pic on Instagram, and it did, just a week after it was posted, the egg surpassed Jenner, and since then it reached over 56 million likes, but it has now been shadowed by Messi's post.

Earlier, the picture shared by Ronaldo playing chess with Messi had also reached 42 million likes, but Messi lifting the World Cup has proved to be a game-changing moment, not just in the sphere of sports, but on social media too.
The 35-year-old Argentina captain scored twice in the final against France, but a hattrick from Kylian Mbappe saw the match head to penalties where Argentina prevailed 4-2.

The caption of Messi's picture perhaps summed up the emotions he went through the years, and during the World Cup, before finally lifting the coveted trophy.
"CHAMPIONS OF THE WORLD!!!!!!! So many times I dreamed it, so much I wanted it that I still don’t fall, I can’t believe it… Thank you so much to my family, to all who support me and also to all who believed in us," he wrote.
"We prove once again that Argentinians when we fight together and united we are able to achieve what we aim. The merit is of this group, which is above individuals, is the strength of all fighting for the same dream that was also the one of all Argentinians…" read the caption further.
