GURGAON: Defending champions Hyderabad Heroes scored a thrilling three-run victory over Ahmedabad Rockets in an Indian Cricket League (ICL) 20s Challenge match at the Tau Devi Lal Stadium on Wednesday.
A superb team effort saw the Heroes triumph after they compiled 166 for six with Stuart Binny (48) and Nicky Boje (47) doing the bulk of the scoring. It was a superb comeback as they were 30 for four at one stage and later 89 for five as Aussie Jason Gillespie and Rakesh Patel bagged four of the first five wickets to fall. A late charge by skipper Chris Harris, who scored an unbeaten 37 off 18, helped boost the total.
The Ahmedabad team got off to a steady start but found themselves slow on run-rate despite a late charge from Reetinder Sodhi (41 off 15).
This was the fourth win in five matches for the Heroes while Ahmedabad suffered their fourth loss in six matches.
In another match played on Tuesday, Tejinder Pal Singh produced a swashbuckling knock of 74 not out as Chandigarh Lions coasted to an eight-wicket victory over Royal Bengal Tigers with 2.3 overs to spare.
Tejinder Pal struck eight fours and two sixes in 48 balls, playing both seamers and spinners with contempt. With support from opener Sarabjit Singh (19), Manish Sharma (25) and Lou Vincent (14 not out), he ensured his team got to the target of 141 with ease.
Earlier, seamers Andrew Hall, Darryl Tuffey and Luv Abhlish grabbed two wickets each to restrict the Tigers to 140 for nine. Opener Hamish Marshal struck a 35-ball 57 but other than Lance Klusener (18 not out) the others could not do much.
Chandigarh have won three of their four matches while Bengal have four wins in six outings.
