Mahinda Rajapaksa invited to C'Wealth closing ceremony

Rajapaksa's trip will be preceded by that of Sri Lankan foreign minister GL Peiris, who will come here on October 13 and hold talks with his counterpart SM Krishna to prepare for the Indo-Sri Lankan joint commission meeting in Colombo later this month.

Sri Lankan president Mahinda Rajapaksa will attend the closing ceremony of the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi on October 14.

Rajapaksa has been invited to the closing ceremony as an "honoured guest", official sources said today.

The Sri Lankan president's trip will be preceded by that of Sri Lankan foreign minister GL Peiris, who will come here on October 13 and hold talks with his counterpart SM Krishna to prepare for the Indo-Sri Lankan joint commission meeting in Colombo later this month.

During his visit, Peiris will deliver the RK Mishra Memorial Lecture on 'Growth, Equity and Security: Constitutional Imperatives for South Asia' on October 15.
