The match as it happened

It was an eventful day at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Monday. First, there was a 53-minute delay to the start due to rain and later in the evening, there was a disruption due to power failure. But nothing could stop Mumbai Indians on the day. They registered a thrilling five-wicket win to keep their unbeaten record intact at this venue.
An unbeaten 122-run sixth-wicket partnership between man-of-the-match Ambati Rayudu (81*, 54b, 6x4, 4x6) and Kieron Pollard (52*, 31b, 5x4, 3x6) settled the issue for the visitors, who notched up their ninth win of the tournament. With this win, Mumbai have moved up to second place with 18 points from 14 matches. RCB have 15 points from as many matches.
Mumbai, chasing 172, looked in disarray after they were reduced to 51 for five in 8.5 overs. It was from there that Rayudu and Pollard took up the responsibility and pulled off one of the greatest comebacks of this year’s IPL.
In fact, even an eight-minute disruption in the 12th over, due to power failure, failed to break their concentration as the two timed their innings perfectly to see their team through in the last over, when 14 were needed. They finished the things with two balls to spare.
Earlier, Mumbai took control of the proceedings after electing to field. They had managed to restrict the hosts to 136 for six by the 18th over. But a blistering knock by local boy Mayank Agarwal (64, 30b, 6x4, 4x6), including 24 runs off the last over bowled by Munaf Patel, helped the hosts post 171 for six. That looked like a winning total but Rayudu and Pollard had different ideas.
Chris Gayle, RCB’s star at the Wankhede last week, managed to score only six. He also disappointed with the ball giving away 39 runs in 2.4 overs.
