A ruling SP MLA and his supporters allegedly clashed with the police on Friday after traffic cops objected to his moving in a car with tinted windows.
Haji Irfan Solanki, MLA from Sisamau in Kanpur was stopped by the local police here when he was on his way to Delhi from Kanpur for having tinted windows in his car, ACP (traffic) Atma Ram said.
The police asked for the driver's driving licence and other papers, Ram said.
Solanki told the police that he is an MLA, but they persisted in removing the black film from the car windows, Ram said.
Angry with the police action, the MLA and his supporters clashed with the police, he said, adding, after intervention of senior officials, the situation was brought under control.
Solanki had to cough up Rs 2,000 as fine, he said.
The Supreme Court has banned the use of tinted glass, restricting visions beyond permissible limit as fixed under the Motor Vehicles Act, in vehicles.
