HOUSTON: Top Indian golfer Arjun Atwal escaped unharmed in a fatal car accident in Orlando, Florida, which led to the death of the driver.

Atwal, 33, the first Indian to play on the USPGA Tour, and driver John N Park were driving at high speed when the latter lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a field, a media report said.

It quoted a witness describing Park's car 'spinning and rolling out of control.'

Park was rushed to a local hospital, but died hours later while Atwal escaped unharmed.

Police have stated that neither drugs nor alcohol were involved in the accident and the Indian golfer had not been charged in the case.

But Robert Kreusler, President/CEO of Blue Giraffe Sports, the player management company representing Atwal, said "Arjun would very much like to address the media about the circumstances of this accident, but obviously cannot do so at
this time because of the investigation being conducted by the Florida Highway Patrol.

"We ask that members of the press and the public do not rush to make a judgment about what occurred here, because once all of the facts have been gathered and the investigation completed, it will be abundantly clear that this was simply a horrible accident and tragedy, with no one at fault," Kreusler continued.

"Arjun and his family extend their deepest condolences to the family of John N Park."
