National badminton coach Pullela Gopichand donates Rs 26 lakh to help fight COVID-19 outbreak

Extending a helping hand during the coronavirus pandemic, former badminton player and national coach Pullela Gopichand has contributed a total of Rs 26 lakhs.

Extending a helping hand during the coronavirus pandemic, former badminton player and national coach Pullela Gopichand has contributed a total of Rs 26 lakhs.

He announced a donation of Rs 11 lakhs to the Prime Minister's Relief Fund (PM CARES), Rs 10 lakhs to the Telangana Relief Fund and Rs 5 lakhs to the Andhra Pradesh CM Relief Fund.

The coach in a recent interview had said that India is far superior to any advanced nation when it comes to fighting against coronavirus at the moment.

Gopichand also appealed to people to stay at home and supported Prime Minister Narendra Modi's campaign of lighting diyas on April 9.

PV Sindhu has also donated Rs 5 lakhs each to the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh CM relief funds.

The Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund’ (PM-CARES Fund) has been created to provide relief to COVID-19 pandemic affected people. Former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, Suresh Raina, and current Indian skipper Virat Kohli, have also donated to help curb the COVID-19 outbreak in the country. 

As many as 109 deaths have been reported across the country due to the deadly disease. There are 3666 active cases in India while 292 people have been cured/discharged/migrated.
