Pakistan cricket chief selector Mohsin Khan has revealed that the selection committee did not consider former skipper Younis Khan’s name for the upcoming Test tour to England, as the PCB chief Ejaz Butt didn’t gave his clearance for the middle order batsman’ selection.
“Normally if a player is unfit the PCB medical board gives the selection committee clearance for him and if a player has disciplinary issues then the PCB chairman gives clearance which we didn’t get in case of Younus,” Mohsin said.
Mohsin’s statement is likely to dig a wider hole into the already bitter relationship between Butt and Younis.
According to insiders, Butt has been furious with Younis for his scathing remarks against the board following the indefinite ban imposed on him.
Former Test cricketer Basit Ali also pointed out that Butt was settling personal scores with Younis by not clearing Younis’ name for selection.
“It is a case of pure personal liking and disliking. If the board can select Malik who was accused of intrigue and creating disharmony in the team when he was banned why can’t Younus be selected as he remains a honest and upright person,” The Daily Times quoted Ali, as saying.
