KARACHI: The Pakistan Cricket Board on Friday heaved a sigh of relief after its Indian counterpart assured that its cricket team would tour Pakistan for the series early next year irrespective of the security situation in the country.

"The Indians have no issues about the tour and the itinerary is confirmed," PCB Director General Saleem Altaf said after discussing the matter with BCCI officials in New Delhi this week on the sidelines of a two-day meeting of the 2011 World Cup organising committee.

Altaf said the President and Chief Executive Officer of the International Cricket Council (ICC) have accepted PCB's invitation to be the special guests during the first Test in Karachi.

"David Morgan and Haroon Lorgat have agreed to attend the Test and this would allow us to send out a clear message that it is safe to play in Pakistan," he said.

India are due to play three Tests, five One-day Internationals and a Twenty20 game in January-February next year.

The tour would enable Pakistan to play their first Test after a hiatus of more than a year -- the last time they played a Test was in December last year when they toured India.

In the recent past, security concerns have led to the postponement of three important events in Pakistan -- Australia and West Indies' tour and the Champions Trophy -- and Altaf said PCB was looking forward to the upcoming India series.
