DURBAN: International Cricket Council President Percy Sonn continued to be "critically ill" in an intensive care unit of a Cape Town hospital following a colon operation.

His spokesperson George Hector said Sonn's "condition remains unchanged".

"We have nothing to report as his condition has not changed. But the family is optimistic that he will improve," Hector said.

The 57-year-old Sonn underwent a colon operation last Friday and it's understood that "the operation did not go well".

Sonn, who became ICC president in 2004, was in the West Indies recently for the cricket World Cup.

Hector had on Tuesday said Sonn family was "hoping against hopes".

Sonn's family, however, is confident that he would overcome the crisis.

"Percy is strong as an ox and we are confident that he will pull through. Currently he is very critical in hospital but the family is hopeful he will recover," Hector said.
