Any event needs a couple of years to make an impact. However, the Colombo Night Races is already a hit given the massive turnout it has generated so far.
On Friday night, Volkswagen Race Polo took over Sri Lanka’s capital city. The TDI Race Polo zipped around Colombo Fort areas for a practice session drawing quite a number of eyeballs here. Polo R Cup drivers Angad Singh Matharoo (from Chandigarh) and Munjal Savla (from Mumbai), who raced in Colombo last year, set the pace.
The races are part of Sri Lanka’s annual festival, Electric Peacock, which hosts a concert too. The event has caught the fancy of the locals as evident by the major roads that were shut down. Not that the locals were complaining.
Volkswagen Motorsport India will showcase their Indian drivers for the second successive year. The qualifying round, with a grid of six Indians and four Sri Lankan drivers, followed by main races, will be held on Saturday night.
