MUMBAI: The Sandesh Memorial Mumbai Billiards and Snooker League, organised by the Billiards and Snooker Association of Maharashtra (BSAM), is set to kick off in a new avatar in the city this weekend.
There is much at stake for the 56 teams from 33 clubs that have entered in this year’s edition,
Besides clubs from Mumbai, the tournament will have two clubs from Pune — the PYC Gymkhana and the Poona Club. The championship has been named after the late Sandesh Kokane, a regular cueist on the circuit, who passed away recently.
The league, to be played on a handicap basis, includes a best-of-5-frames competition.
The new format includes one frame of snooker singles and one frame of 100-up billiards singles alternatively, and a final frame of snooker doubles (Joker). The total prize for the championship is Rs. 75,000, the highest-ever offered in the league.
