Win by an innings & 32 runs; Gujarat tail hangs on for 16 overs on the final morning.

Punjab registered a comprehensive win over Gujarat in their Ranji Trophy Super League match at Mohali on Friday, but not before the visitors’ tail irritated them for 18 overs. The home team won by an innings and 32 runs, earning them a bonus point to collect a total of six.

Gujarat resumed their second innings on an overnight score of 227 for seven, with Rujul Bhatt on 93 and Salil Yadav on 0. Bhatt, who demonstrated his ability to bat on a sporting wicket, fell in the first over of the day after adding two runs. Caught behind off the bowling of MS Gony, his wicket left Gujarat at 229 for eight.

The visitors’ tail-enders then irritated Punjab captain Pankaj Dharmani by hanging around for 16 overs while adding only 25 runs. The Gujarat innings ended when Mehul Patel (6 off 43 balls) was bowled by Harmeet Singh.

“Rujul is in good form and we hope he continues this in the future too. He missed a well-deserved century,” said Gujarat head coach Vijay Patel.
