The selectors have put their faith once again in Rajpal Singh’s captaincy. They have named him skipper for the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup to be held next month.
Though selectors have dropped a few senior players, Rajpal feels the move will be good for the youngsters. “I cannot comment on the decision of the selectors or on the dropping the senior players but I feel this tournament is a platform for youngsters. Even I got my break through this tournament in 2006,” he said.
The skipper said that before big tournaments like the Commonwealth and the Asian Games, the Azlan Shah Cup will give the players a chance to test their skills. “The tournament will have good teams like Australia, China, Korea and New Zealand. This will benefit us as the same teams will be playing in the forthcoming tournaments,” said Rajpal.
