Dilip Vengsarkar says MS Dhoni is the right man to lead India. The former chairman of selector, in Pune on Wednesday to attend a function, said there is no need to raise such questions over Dhoni’s captaincy. “The team is doing well at this moment and I think Dhoni is the right man to lead,” he said.

On Rahul Dravid’s return to the ODIs, Vengsarkar said the Bangalorean has the potential. “He is a very good player, but he is 36. He has been out of the ODIs for two years. We will have to watch how he performs,” he said.

Speaking at the function, Vengsarkar said Pune is not producing the quality of players it used to. “When I played against Maharashtra, there were 10 players from Pune and one from Nashik. But this is not seen these days,” he said.

“There are lots of talented players in the city, but they are not getting the exposure because there are not many first-class matches happening. So for a better future, the city needs to host the first-class matches,” he added. He also emphasised on reviving the club cricket. “Club cricket should also be revived in the city for the betterment of the game,” he said.
