The Sri Lanka cricket selection panel, led by former batsman Sanath Jayasuriya has tendered its resignation in an attempt to pave way for new management to take over the country's cricket governing body.
The 2011 World Cup runners-up were eliminated from the recently concluded sport's pinnacle tournament following a nine-wicket drubbing by South Africa in the quarterfinal. The Jayasuriya-led panel came under fire for making four changes to the team during their quarterfinal defeat to South Africa in a lopsided contest.

Despite bowing out of the selection panel, Jayasuriya said that he was always available if Sri Lanka Cricket needs him to serve the country in the future, Sport24 reported. Jayasuriya, who was a member of Sri Lanka's 1996 World Cup-winning team, confirmed that he, along with the four other members of the selection panel had given separate letters of resignations and had quit.
Following Sri Lanka's World Cup defeat, Sports Minister Navin Dissanayake appointed an interim committee headed by former Test player Sidath Wettimuny to manage Sri Lanka Cricket, asking him to 'clean up' the administration of the sport, which resulted in a mass resignation.
