Reigning Formula One world champion Jenson Button has warned seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher that his reputation faces ruin if he makes an F1 comeback in 2010. Schumacher is understood to have verbally agreed to a seven million pound one-year deal with Mercedes F1 team.
“Schumacher coming back to F1 is great news for the sport, but I don't know if it will be great news for Michael Schumacher,” News of the World quoted Button, as saying.
“He will be putting his reputation on the line coming back into the sport. But I'll race against anybody. I want to beat the best and he was one of the best,” he added.
Button, who was presented with the championship trophy at a gala dinner in Monaco on Friday, said: “This was the greatest night of my life. I will cherish this forever.
“Whenever I look at the drivers' trophy I will remember this moment as it's what I've been dreaming about since I was eight. It would be great to win the Sports Personality of the Year award because that is voted for by the British public,” he added.
He further said that he will soon start thinking about getting ready for next season, as that is going to be a big challenge. “My aim is to win the world championship again,” Button said.
