Shoaib Akhtar’s calf bandage raises injury concerns

Akhtar’s bandage was a precautionary measure to avoid any injury niggle before the major quadrangular one-day tournament, which kickstarts in Dambula on June 15.

Injury prone Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar, who was recently named in the 15-man squad for the forthcoming Asia Cup, was seen sporting a bandage on his left calf during a training camp here, which has raised questions over his fitness.

Team sources said that Akhtar’s bandage was a precautionary measure to avoid any injury niggle before the major quadrangular one-day tournament, which kickstarts in Dambula on June 15, The Dawn reports.

However, knowing Akhtar’s history of injuries speculations regarding his fitness are being raised once again.

According to insiders, Akhtar is also not happy about being made to bowl extra overs in the training camp’

Earlier, captain Shahid Afridi rubbished reports regarding Akhtar, 34, not being fully fit.

“I don’t know who is spreading such false rumours. There is nothing wrong with Shoaib. He is fully fit and it’s showing in his output during training sessions. He is going that extra mile which is a great sign for us,” Afridi said.
