South African cricket bonuses probed

Officials from Cricket South Africa (CSA) were paid bonuses of 4.7 million rand ($648,900) with chief executive Gerald Majola getting 1.77 million rand.

South African cricket authorities have set up an independent committee to investigate large bonuses paid to staff after the Indian Premier League and International Cricket Council (ICC) Champions Trophy last season.

Officials from Cricket South Africa (CSA), the game's ruling body, were paid bonuses of 4.7 million rand ($648,900) with chief executive Gerald Majola getting 1.77 million rand and former chief operating officer Don McIntosh pocketing R1.45 million.
The rest was split between 38 other CSA employees.

However, CSA's remuneration committee says it did not authorise bonuses.

A review committee under the chairmanship of former chief justice Pius Langa, assisted by forensic auditors from accounting companies KPMG and Deloitte, will conduct the probe.

Majola has paid back his bonus until the audit is complete while McIntosh resigned his position last month.

The review committee will begin its investigation in September.
