New Zealand’s cricketers have been hit by a stomach bug on Friday as they fight to save the first Test against Sri Lanka.

Tillakaratne Dilshan scored a century as Sri Lanka set New Zealand an improbable 413-run target on Day Four of the first Test.

Wicket-keeper Brendon McCullum and batsman Jesse Ryder were the mostly severely affected and forced to stay at the hotel as their teammates were bowled out for 299, a deficit of 153, after 35 minutes of play on the fourth day.

Jacob Oram, Jeetan Patel, Daniel Flynn, Tim McIntosh and Chris Martin were also affected, team manager Dave Currie said.

Beginning their run chase, makeshift opener Daniel Flynn — standing in for McIntosh — was dismissed for nought to leave the tourists on 30 for one at the close. Flynn was acrobatically caught by a diving Mahela Jayawardene at slip off seamer Nuwan Kulasekara.
