St Joseph High School, Panvel, comes third in West Zone Football CBSE Cluster

The u-19 football team of St Joseph’s High School CBSE, Panvel emerged as the second runner-up in the West Zone Football CBSE Cluster tournament held at the All Saints High School, Bhiwandi in Mumbai, from October 2 - 7.

As many as 69 schools from Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, and Daman and Diu participated in the knockout tournament. St Joseph’s team performed well in the tournament and secured the third position. There were four pools for 69 teams participating in this tournament.

In the first round pool match, Josephians gave an excellent show, and in a clean sweep defeated Holy Writ, Badlapur by 11-0. In the second round, they defeated Vatsalya International School, Anand Nagar by 8-0, while in the third round, they defeated DAV School, Airoli by 2-0.

In the quarter finals, St Joseph defeated RN Podar International School, Mumbai by 2-1. The two goals in the quarter final match were scored by Michael and Sagar. St Joseph High School’s team defeated Navrachna School, Vadodra, Gujarat, for the third place; Aashish Lalge scored a match-winning golden goal. Two players from St Joseph - Sagar Singh and Aashish Lalge won the Players of the Tournament medals and brought laurels for the school.

The principal of the school, Kalpana Dwivedi, congratulated the team’s coach Poorna Shrestha, team manager Satish R. Mokal, PT Teacher Kiran Yadav, and all the players for their great performance. She said, “It is a proud moment for Josephians and we shall strive for the winners’ trophy next year.”
