DUBAI: West Indies' debutant opener Brenton Parchment and South African pacer Dale Steyn were fined for separate ICC Code of Conduct offences during the third and final Test between the two sides in Durban.

Parchment was fined 50 per cent of his match fee after being found guilty of 'intentionally' running into Steyn, while Steyn himself was docked 10 per cent of his match earnings for showing 'disrespect to opposition batsman Marlon Samuels through his physical and verbal actions'.

Both the players had pleaded not guilty to the charges laid against them by on-field umpires Simon Taufel and Aleem Dar, third umpire Brian Jerling and reserve umpire Zed Ndamane.

The hearings into both the cases was conducted by match referee Roshan Mahanama.

Parchment's offence fell under 2.4 of the ICC Code of Conduct which refers to 'inappropriate and deliberate physical contact between players in the course of play'.

The penalty range for a Level 2 offence is between 50 per cent and a full match fee and/or a one Test or two ODI ban and the player has 24 hours to appeal.

Steyn's was a Level 1 offence and the pacer was charged under the C1 section of the Code of Conduct which deals with breaches relating to the Spirit of Cricket.

"Taking everything into consideration and looking at video evidence of the incident I found the player guilty," Mahanama said after the hearing.

The penalty range for a Level 1 offence is between an official reprimand and a fine of up to 50 per cent of the player's match fee.

For Level 1 offences, there is no right of appeal and the referee's decision is final.
