Tamil Nadu government announces Rs3 crore cash reward to Indian cricket team

Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi said that a special cash award of Rs1 crore would be given to Tamil Nadu player R Ashwin.

Tamil Nadu government today announced a cash reward of Rs3 crore to the Indian cricket team for winning the ICC World Cup.

Chief minister M Karunanidhi, in a statement, also said a special cash award of Rs1 crore would be given to Tamil Nadu player R Ashwin, a member of the victorious Indian squad.

In view of the model code of conduct in force for the April 13 assembly elections, the government would seek the Election Commission's permission in this regard, he added.

MS Dhoni-led Indian cricket team defeated Sri Lanka by six wickets in the final of the World Cup in Mumbai on April 2 to lift the trophy after a gap of 28 years.
