Mahendra Singh Dhoni has finally surrendered his bachelorhood.
He is learnt to have tied the knot with long-time girlfriend Sakshi Singh Rawat in Dehradun on Sunday night.
The sleepy hill town is supposed to have come alive when the Dhonis and the Rawats descended on the place on Saturday. The marriage was a closely-guarded secret. Not many even in the Indian squad were aware of the plans.
The all-of-a-sudden marriage is because of the packed schedule of the team in the coming months. But cricketer RP Singh, a close friend of Dhoni, was one of the first to have learnt of the marriage.
The marriage was more or less a private affair, with few invitations going out. Team India was invited, as were BCCI president Shashank Manohar and secretary N Srinivasan, who have reached the town. No selector has been invited.
Most Team India members are rushing to Dehradun, except Yuvraj Singh, Virender Sehwag, Zaheer Khan and Sachin Tendulkar, who is out of the country at present.
“Got to know mahi is getting married! Congratulations dhoni and sakshi hope u have a great life together god bless!!yuvi and family,” Yuvraj tweeted on Sunday.
The reception menu has been prepared by Dhoni’s sister, who has, however, avoided the bubbly — liquor will not be served at the party. The team leaves for Sri Lanka on July 9 for a tri-series.
