The match passes will soon be replaced by identity cards for the Test cricketers that can be swiped at the entrance of the sitting area. The MCA passed the idea in its managing committee meeting on Saturday night. The MCA hopes to put the system in place for India’s ODI against England next Sunday or latest before the Test versus the West Indies.

There have been many instances in the past where cricketers have been made to wait in queues to get the match passes for an international match. In the process, some of them would either be ignored or left out. MCA joint secretary Nitin Dalal said this will help curb that problem. “We received many complaints from the Test cricketers that they had to stand in the queue. Hence, the MCA decided to curb this problem once and for all. They will be given access to the grand stand,” said Dalal.

Former Test cricketer Madhav Apte welcomed MCA’s decision. “It is a very good idea. Every time we had to go out and procure it, but now we won’t have to. Now a Test cricketer will be identified, and no forms will be filled up,” said Apte.
