Three out of ten people in Afghanistan have been classified as 'suffering,' according to a new survey.

The Gallup poll, covering approximately 1,000 people, showed that 30 percent Afghans are 'suffering,' at present, compared to 23 percent of Afghans who were classified as suffering in 2010, Politico reports.

The poll also revealed that the percentage of Afghans who were determined to be "thriving" has dropped significantly, down to just four percent from a high of 12 percent in 2010.

The percentage of Afghans who feel safe walking alone at night in the city dipped significantly since the previous year, down to 29 percent from 37 percent in 2010, the survey said.

It also showed that the unemployment rate in Afghanistan in 2011 was over 15 percent, the same rate as in 2010, but still significantly higher than in 2009, when between five percent and nine percent of Afghans were unemployed.
