Twenty20 cricket tourney to be held in Haryana

A twenty20 cricket tournament on the lines of ICL and IPL will be organised at Jan Nayak Chaudhary Devi Lal national cricket academy in Sirsa from Sep 5 to 15.

CHANDIGARH: A twenty20 cricket tournament on the lines of Indian cricket league (ICL) and Indian premier league (IPL) will be organised at Jan Nayak Chaudhary Devi Lal national cricket academy (JCDNCA) in Haryana's Sirsa town from Sep 5 to 15, an official said here on Tuesday.

"The tournament is named JCD international cricket league and eight teams, including three international teams, are participating in it," Digvijay Singh, JCDNCA chairperson, said here.

"Lahore lions, Pakistan, Young talent cricket club, Sri Lanka and the national team of United Arab Emirates are participating in the tournament," said Singh.
 
"JCDNCA was started in the beginning of 2008. Around 2,000 budding players had given trials and we have selected 40 out of them. Nine of these 40 players are participating in this tournament," he said.

Indian teams include Air India, LIC cricket club, Indian Navy, Indian Air Force and JCDNCA team. All these teams will be a mixture of international and national level players.

Players like Mohammed Kaif, Yusuf Pathan, Ishant Sharma, Manpreet Goni, Naved Latif and Taufiq Umar are participating in this tournament, said Singh, who is a grandson of Haryana's former chief minister Om Prakash Chautala.

Singh said: "Our curators have been trained in Australia and they have made two pitches similar to Australian pitches and two pitches similar to normal Indian pitches. Floodlights have been imported from the US and there will be a unique laser show imported from China and firework before every match."

The capacity of the stadium is 10,000 and tickets are priced at Rs.200 per person. There will be 16 matches in the tournament and Rs.500,000 will be given to the winning team.
