Manchester United’s return to the UEFA Champions League group stages after a year’s absence was as black as their away kit as left-back Luke Shaw suffered a horrific injury while United lost 2-1 to their Dutch opponents.The game was brought to a halt in the 15th minute when Shaw was injured by a tackle from PSV defender Hector Moreno. The English international required medical attention including an oxygen mask and was taken off on a stretcher with a suspected broken leg.
Meanwhile, Memphis Depay scored against his former club with some trademark trickery but Moreno hit back for PSV during the first-half injury time. Things went from bad to worse when Luciano Narsingh nodded past David De Gea to put the Dutch team ahead.
Interestingly, Narsingh has an Indian connection. Narsingh’s grandparents were immigrant workers from Andhra Pradesh who worked as slaves in Suriname, a former Dutch colony. He used to play for Heerenveen before moving to PSV in 2012. He was part of the Dutch squad in the 2012 Euro and missed out being part of the 2014 World Cup due to injury.
