A lot will be at stake for Mumbai when they meet Karnataka in the quarterfinals of the inter-state Vijay Hazare Trophy at Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium, New Delhi, on Tuesday.
After a poor Ranji season, Mumbai have a chance to redeem themselves with a title victory in the one-day tournament. However, their first hurdle is Karnataka, a formidable side led by Robin Uthappa, who scored two centuries in the zonal qualifiers.
Under new captain Ajit Agarkar, the side did well to finish on top of the West Zone league. However, there are many chinks in their armour. One of them is the top-order that failed to click in the league stages. Wasim Jaffer was the only centurion in the four matches that Mumbai played at home.
With Rohit Sharma back in the side, the batting would become stronger. Although Sharma has not been among runs in Australia, it will give him a good chance to get back in form before the Asia Cup.
