A day after Amir Khan said he would love to fight Vijender Singh in India, the recently-turned professional Indian boxers accepted his challenge on Tuesday. However, it will take at least a year for fans to witness this Indo-Pak boxing. rivalry
Amir, a much senior pro boxer than Vijender boxes in middleweight category (72.5kg), while the Indian fights in the super middleweight (76kg). Thus, the two will have to fall in the same category first.
“I accept the challenge of Amir Khan and I am sure this fight will be a big boost to boxing in our country,” Vijender said on Tuesday in response to Amir's challenge.
“As we both fight in different weight categories, we will have to see whether Amir gains or I lose weight. I started my professional boxing career only last year and have made only four appearances in the pro ring. It might take me just one more year when I will be ready to fight against Amir Khan.”
Amir, the Pakistan-origin boxer, has 34 pro fights against his name as opposed to Vijender's four. Thus, the Indian will have to get a lot more experience under his belt before entertaining thoughts of a mouth-watering battle.
“I am sure this fight will attract international limelight and attention. Currently, I am focusing on my next fight scheduled for 30 April against Matiouze Royer at Copper Box Arena,” the Indian boxer added.
