VVS Laxman's further participation in the ongoing first cricket Test is under doubt due to his back injury and the team management will take a final call on his availability tomorrow.

A stylish middle-order batsman, Laxman today came to bat at number 10 due to severe back pain was accompanied by his runner Gautam Gambhir.

He was the last man out in India's first innings after manging just two runs.

"Laxman has severe back spasms. He has undergone treatment throughout the day. He was not in a position to bat but still showed lot of guts to come out and bat.

"We are still not sure whether he will be able to field tomorrow. We will only take a call tomorrow morning," team official Mayank Parikh told PTI.

It is for the second time that Indian team management is troubled by injury problems in the first Test as Ishant Sharma had also suffered a hamstring injury earlier.

Laxman's back has troubled him since the tour of Sri Lanka.

With India due to bat last in this Test match, Laxman's absence from the field may just mean that he will have to bat lower down the order from his usual position of Number six.

This will be a cause of concern if India are set a stiff fourth innings target by the Australians.
