Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir has paid tribute to the fans of Kolkata Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by posting an emotional video on X as he is set to start his new role as Team India coach.
Former KKR captain Gambhir returned to the franchise as a mentor in this season’s IPL. As a result, the KKR ended up winning their third IPL title after beating Sunriser Hyderabad by eight wickets in May 2024. Notably, Gambhir had led KKR to two IPL triumphs in 2012 and 2014.
In the video, Gambhir opened up about his deep bond with the people of Kolkata and his connection with the fans of the KKR team. “Come Kolkata, let’s create some new legacies @KKRiders @iamsrk @indiancricketteam. Dedicated to Kolkata and KKR fans…,” Gambhir wrote in the caption.

Meanwhile, Gambhir is set to assume the role of head coach of Team India for their upcoming Sri Lanka tour, set to commence on July 27.
It is anticipated that Gambhir will meet with selectors this week to deliberate on the T20I and ODI squads for the Sri Lanka tour.
Latest reports suggest that Suryakumar Yadav is a dark horse in the race for India T20I captaincy, and might just pip top contender Hardik Pandya to the post vacated by Rohit Sharma post his retirement from the T20Is.
