The Gautam Gambhir era begins as he officially takes charge as Team India’s head coach by holding the first practice session in Sri Lanka today. Team India reached Sri Lanka on Monday for their upcoming three-match T20I and as many as ODI series against the Island Nation.

Ahead of the series, BCCI shared a video on X which shows Gambhir finally taking charge as Team India's head coach by conducting the first practice session in Pallekele.

In the viral video, Gambhir was seen guiding the players and even gave some batting tips to Sanju Samson on the field.

Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav on Thursday was named the captain of India’s T20I squad for the three-match series against Sri Lanka, while ODI skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli made themselves available for the 50-over format against the same team next month. Shubman Gill has been named vice-captain for both formats. 

The first T20I will be held on July 27, followed by games on July 28 and 30. All the matches will be played at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium. The ODIs will be held on August 2, 4, and 7 at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
