Kolkata Knight Riders co-owner Shah Rukh Khan said he will not force injured captain Gautam Gambhir to play in the third edition of the Champions League Twenty20.

“Unfortunately, Gambhir is injured but we will not force him to play in the tournament,” the Bollywood superstar said at a promotional event here on Friday.

“The decision whether he’s fit enough to play in the championship has to be completely his or his fitness staff’s. We will accept the decision and will wish that he, at least, comes for one of the matches to cheer the boys,” Khan added.

Gambhir suffered a concussion during the fourth Test against England last month. It ruled him out of the rest of the tour and also cast a shadow on his participation in the CLT20.

“If you are playing a game, you are bound to get injured. No pain, no gain,” Khan said. He also laughed off the at the never-ending ‘Country vs Club’ debate.

“The other franchisees and I were happy with the runs scored by the likes of Sachin Tendulkar and Mahendra Singh Dhoni in the World Cup. We are all proud when the Indian team does well,” he said. “For us, India matters more than the club and it’ll always remain like that,” he added.
