India is to see its first international professional level fitness exposition, which includes Professional Body Building Championship for men and Professional Figure Championship for women. The event named Sheru Classic will take place in Mumbai on September 24 and 25.
The chairman of Sheru Classic, Sheru Aangrish, said, “I believe India has a lot of scope in body building. We are bringing Asia’s biggest and the world’s third biggest professional event to the city.
The Sheru Classic will be one of the 18 big professional body building events in the world, which are recognised by International Federation of Body Builders (IFBB) and the winners of the men’s and the women’s events will get a direct entry into the Mr Olympia and Ms Olympia events that happen in Las Vegas.”
Aangrish has been involved in body building for more than 14 years and has won Mr India and British Championship titles. He said, “I wanted to bring a big body building event to India. In 2009, I organised an amateur event in Ludhiana which was a success and then I went on to plan this professional event.”
The expo and the pre-judging rounds of the Sheru Classic will take place on September 24 at the Taj Land’s End and the final competition will be at Mehboob Studio.
“The Sheru Classic will be held a week after the Mr Olympia, which means that the participants will be in top shape for the event. The star athlete, who will be participating in this year’s competition, is Jay Cutler, who is the current and four-time winner of Mr Olympia.” He added, “Accomplished body builder Varinder Singh Ghuman will be the only Indian to participate.”
